Cheering in Downtown Vancouver

One of my most cherished memories of the 2010 Winter Olympics hosted in Vancouver is the thousands upon thousands of citizens and visitors who gathered and celebrated our athletes' accomplishments on Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver. ‎Almost eight years later, I can still recall how loudly proud Canadians, wearing face paint and dressed in red and white like we ‎do on Canada Day, were cheering. It was the sound that the whole world heard and it came from Downtown Vancouver.

When I leave our city, I return home to see with fresh eyes the unique and exceptional beauty of our particular downtown. Surrounded by ocean, set against mountains and sky, we connect with each other in its charming streets and beautiful buildings, cozy cafes and across shop counters. This city is full of energy and history and people who love it. It is the chosen backdrop for many lives, as it is for mine.

I moved to Victoria from Brazil eight years ago (yep, I just counted with my fingers – time really does fly). One of my favourite parts of this small city is no doubt, the downtown. The feeling I get when I step my foot in downtown is hard to describe but I can say that it is an intense feeling of happiness....
